Since October 2000, MM~LAW’s practice has been limited to representing victims of international terrorism, crimes against humanity, genocide, torture and human trafficking, in civil lawsuits, on a contingency basis, against the financial and support networks of the perpetrators, including international banks, oil companies, illegal arms dealers and state sponsors of terrorism. Based in Chicago, MM~LAW maintains affiliate offices in Africa and the Middle East.
MM~LAW currently represents over 19,000 victims (including over 3,000 U.S. veterans and Gold Star families), from 26 countries. Together with its network of co-counsel law firms, we are litigating lawsuits on behalf of our clients in Washington D.C., New York, Israel, France, Kenya, and Iraq.
In 2001, MM~LAW formed its human rights and counterterrorism research group, a unique research division dedicated to legal and operational research. primarily in Arabic and Farsi, but also in English, French, German, Dutch, Hebrew, Kurdish, Italian and Spanish, creating its database of hundreds of thousands of documents and videos documenting perpetrators, co-conspirators, aiders and abettors and profiteers, and tracing assets and international money laundering activities and documenting the financing of international terrorism, crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes, torture, human trafficking and slavery.
MM~LAW continues to actively pursue enforcement and collection of the more than $20 billion judgments already obtained against state sponsors of terrorism, international banks and other multinational corporations, and has successfully recovered for clients over $1.8 billion to date.
MM~LAW actively interfaces with legislative and executive branches of government in proposing bi-partisan legislative initiatives to advance victims’ access to justice, end the impunity of the funders, money launders and profiteers of these crimes, and create pathways to effective and just remedies for victims/survivors, and enhance law enforcement capabilities to combat the transnational criminal enterprises and financial networks funding and/or profiting from international terrorism, human trafficking and crimes against humanity.
MM~LAW founder Gavriel Mairone, a pioneer in the practice of counter-terrorism law, was awarded Trial Lawyer of the Year – 2016 by Public Justice Foundation and recognized by the National Trial Lawyers Association as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer and Top 25 Mass-Tort Lawyer, and Lawyers of Distinction, as an influential, private international and counter-terrorism lawyer.
